Disney Dream Portraits

Fairest of them all.

Darlings, Disney Parks unveiled the latest Disney Dream Portraits by Annie Leibovitz. Let's take a look.

Queen Latifah as Ursula from “The Little Mermaid.”

Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges as Belle and the transformed prince
from “Beauty and the Beast”

As the Evil Queen, Olivia Wilde and Alec Baldwin as the spirit of the magic mirror
from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

It's always fun when a new batch of these come out, just to see which stars were used and how they made them up to look like iconic Disney characters. We're going to be a little bitchy here, though. The pics are fun and all; certainly well cast, but does anyone else think the use of Photoshop to complete the illusion is even more heavy-handed this time around? Queen Latifah looks like she's floating on that background, which looks like a stock photo. Jeff Bridges is almost totally unrecognizable (that sure as hell isn't his body) and we wonder if he and Penelope Cruz were even on the same continent when their pictures were taken. They certainly don't look like they're occupying the same physical space. Olivia Wilde looks the best, but that's because they seemed to have evoked the character solely through good makeup and costuming rather than keystrokes.

Are we wrong here? They always used a lot of trickery to get the right blend of fantasy and reality for this series. Here are the previous installments:

Plenty of Photoshopping, sure. But there it was more artfully done, to our eyes. Jeff Bridges' face looks like a smudge. We give Latifah a lot of credit, though. Ursula is generally considered one of the more repulsive Disney villains.
