Bridget Bones: Super-slim Renee Zellweger proudly shows off her muscular back in sheer gold gown at Met Gala

By Sarah Bull

Muscular: Renee Zellweger proudly showed off her bony back at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala in New York last night

She has famously battled with her weight after piling on the pounds to play Bridget Jones.

But it seems Renee Zellweger is finally happy with her figure, judging by pictures of her at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute gala in New York last night.

The 42-year-old actress showed off her super-slim frame in a backless gold Carolina Herrera gown as she attended the prestigious fashion event.

However, perhaps Renee didn't check her back view in the mirror before she walked the red carpet, as the sheer dress drew attention to her incredibly bony, muscular back.

Daring: Renee's pretty gold Carolina Herrera gown featured a V-back and drew attention to Renee's slim physique

Her shoulder blades looked very prominent in the gown - a sure sign Renee has been working hard in the gym to hone her muscular physique.

But newly-single Renee looked thrilled with the outfit, posing so photographers could snap ever angle of the shimmering dress.

And, to ensure the backless gown was displayed to its full potential, Renee even wore her hair in an up 'do so the back view wasn't obscured in any way.

Every angle: Renee even wore her hair up so all attention was focused on her bony back

The Cold Mountain actress is no stranger to attracting criticism for her weight, after taking the weight loss too far following her portrayal of singleton Bridget Jones.

Renee was famously paid a bonus sum on top of her £9.5 million (USD$15m) paycheck for every pound she gained for the movie's sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2004.

The actress is said to have gained 20 pounds for the 2001 original and 30 pounds for the sequel.

Posing up: All eyes were on 42-year-old Renee as she posed for photographers on the red carpet

Careful! The long train on Renee's dress could have proved problematic as she made her way up the stairs

Leggy: The actress took care with the delicate train as she arrived in a car at the after-party

But, after finishing the movies, Renee hit the gym with a vengeance to shed the weight, and has continued to work out virtually every day to maintain her slim figure.

While there was talk recently of the possibility of a third Bridget Jones film being made, it was reported Renee is thinking of wearing a fat suit if she takes on the role again because she is too concerned about the health implications of her yo-yo dieting.

Talking recently about how her body has been affected by her ever-changing weight, Renee said: 'Can I just tell you my body is whacked by the time we finish one of those!

'It doesn't know what has happened because it thinks there's supposed to be a baby and there's no christening.'

'Did you see that movie about fast food, Supersize Me?

'I had a panic attack with all the specialists talking about how bad this is for you, long term, putting on that much weight in short periods of time.

'And they're all saying, "You must stop this now or you're going to die".'

Despite her unusual choice of dress for last night's event, Renee appeared in good spirits and smiled widely for photographers as she posed on the red carpet.

However, Renee's happy facade may have slipped when she stepped inside and found that her ex-boyfriend Bradley Cooper was also in attendance.

The couple split in March after nearly two years together, apparently because Cooper wanted to concentrate on his career rather than a relationship.

But Renee can take comfort in the fact that Cooper didn't choose to take a date to the Met gala last night, instead opting to invite his mother Gloria to accompany him.

Yo-yo weight: Bridget Jones star Renee's weight has been the cause of constant debate over the years

The Hangover star looked smart in his black tuxedo and bowtie as he posed with Gloria, whose diminutive stature proved for some humorous photos outside the event.

Shortly after the couple's split in March, a friend of the actor said it was Cooper's professional ambition which led to their break-up.

The friend said: 'If I had to pick any possible mistress it would be Brad's career. He worked really hard to get into leading man status.'

Business as usual: Pregnant Victoria Beckham flies back to the States in towering stilettos and skintight trousers

By Jody Thompson

Still on trend: Victoria Beckham, seen with sons Cruz, left, Romeo, right, and father Tony, was wearing skyscraper stilettos despite enduring a 12 hour flight to Los Angeles and being pregnant

She might be almost seven months pregnant - but Victoria Beckham still didn't let her sartorial guard slip when she flew back to Los Angeles after the Royal Wedding this weekend.

The 37-year-old former Spice Girl was seen teetering through arrivals after the gruelling 12 hour flight dressed to the nines in towering nude platform Louboutins with leather skinny jeans and a black fitted jacket.

The star was covering her bump with a huge beige bag - presumably from her own collection - as well as a long beige scarf and cuddly teddy bear as her son Romeo, eight, clutched her hand.

A grinning Cruz, five, was following behind clutching a disposable camera and accompanied by Victoria's father

Victoria didn't exactly looked thrilled to be back in LA after her tiring transatlantic flight however - possibly as she'd had such a fantastic weekend at Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding.

She wrote on the day of the wedding, to which she and husband David, who turned 36 today, were guests: 'London looks beautiful!!!we are so proud to be British! X VB x'

The Beckhams flew back after the nuptials in time for David's match with his LA Galaxy side against FC Dallas last night.

Handsome couple: Victoria - again wearing eye-wateringly high heels - and husband David arriving at Westminster Abbey for the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton on Friday

The game was delayed for more than an hour because of lightning - and it was a very unhappy birthday for Becks when he team were beaten 2-1.

Before the Beckham's return to LA at the weekend, rumours had abounded that Victoria was set to stay in the UK after the wedding ready for the birth of her fourth child, a girl.

Victoria is already mother to sons Brooklyn, 12, as well as Romeo and Cruz, and all have been born at London's exclusive Portland Hospital.

But there is still time for the star to jet back to the UK to ensure that her child is born British.

The latest NHS guidelines say that it is safe to fly whilst in the later stages of pregnancy, provided your doctor has given you the all clear.

The singer-turned-fashion designer has previously said that the baby will be her last child, as four children were the perfect number, and has spoken frequently of her desire for a little girl.

She revealed in one interview she could imagine 'painting her nails, putting on make-up, and choosing clothes' with her.

Newly slim Beyonce and daring racy in lace Rihanna

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Dramatic: Rihanna and Beyonce are both striking in black at the 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty' Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

It is the fashion industry's night of nights, and as two of the fiercest celebrities around, Rihanna and Beyonce were always going to give the models and designers a run for the money.

Beyonce, who has dropped a few dress sizes in recent months, decided to show off her newly svelte figure in an extremely tight gown by Emilio Pucci last night at the Costume Institute Gala in New York.

And while, other than a cut-out of her décolletage, the 29-year-old singer remained covered up in her breathtaking gown, Rihanna turned heads in a daring Stella McCartney dress that left little to the imagination.

Risqué: From the front Rihanna's lace Stella McCartney gown appears rather demure with just a subtle hint of skin, but as she turned around the daring slashed side was revealed

Rihanna, 23, dazzled in the lacy number which she teamed with strappy Christian Louboutin heels and long, red braided hair.

From the front, the singer's dress appeared rather conservative with just a subtle hint of skin on show.

But as she turned around, Rihanna revealed a daring slit up the side of the dress, held together with sheer mesh.

Rihanna came close to revealing far too much flesh as she bent down to adjust her train

Breathe in: Beyonce and husband Jay-Z pose for photographers before he and an assistant held her up the stairs in her tight-fitting Emilio Pucci gown

Beyonce was joined by her husband Jay-Z and showed off her figure in a form-fitting black fishtail gown with exquisite gold embroidery.

The stunning dress had a high neck design, complete with a cut out oval panel which revealed her décolletage.

Of course, having her husband by her side proved helpful because the tight-fitting nature of the ensemble meant it the Single Ladies singer needed assistance climbing the stairs.

Facing the photographers: Beyonce puts her eye-catching dress forward for judgement on the red carpet

Drama: Ashley Greene and Jennifer Hudson dazzle in neutral gowns with dramatic skirts

Pristine: Glamorous Nicole Richie, adventurous Serena Williams and sleek Freida Pinto all chose clean white in very different styles

The Met Gala is one of the biggest events in the fashion calendar and is held every year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This year the event has been dedicated to designer Alexander McQueen, who took his own life last February.

Beyonce has recently returned to the States from Paris where she has been working on new material ahead of her much anticipated comeback

Radiant in red: Gisele Bundchen paid tribute to Alexander McQueen, Twilight star Kristen Stewart wore patterned Proenza Schouler and Glee actress Lea Michele was chic in silk Escada

Golden Girls: Sarah Jessica Parker also paid tribute to her friend Alexander McQueen, Gossip Girl Blake Lively in Chanel Couture

She is set to feature on an upcoming track with Jay-Z and Kanye West and is believed to have laid down some vocals while in Europe.

Other guests at the event included Jennifer Lopez, Brooklyn Decker and Rosie Huntington Whitely.

The three ladies all went for pink gowns, with Victoria's Secret model Rosie being the most daring in a dress which was split from the neck down to her navel.

Glistening: Gwyneth Paltrow in a Stella McCartney column dress, Salma Hayek wore floaty Alexander McQueen, Naomi Watts also dazzled in Stella McCartney and Kristen Bell in golden Tory Burch

Star-spangled: Madonna was more conservative than usual in a blue Stella McCartney gown

Dark beauties: Penelope Cruz wore Oscar de la Renta, Leighton Meester kept it short in a Louis Vuitton dress, and Demi Moore wore Prabal Gurung

Actresses Maggie Gyllenhaal, Eva Mendes along with singer Madonna all wore varying shades of blue.

Maggie's form fitting ensemble appeared to be slightly see-through around the chest while Madonna's attire, complete with silver stars, was a demure choice compared to the more 'out there' designs she usually wears to such events.

Isla Fisher also chose sparkly blue Tory Burch, while Eva Mendes went for an asymmetrical Stella McCartney.

Rock stars and their ladies: Mick Jagger and his designer girlfriend L'Wrenn Scott attended, as did Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell

Good-looking duos: Orlando Bloom accompanied wife Miranda Kerr, in a ballerina-style dress by Marchesa, while Fergie, also in Marchesa, attended with husband Josh Duhamel

McCartney was a popular choice on the night with Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna and Iman all wearing designs by the Brit.

Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Gwyneth, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Bell, Naomi Watts and Renee Zellweger all chose flattering and dazzling gold gowns.

While gold was the most popular choice of the evening, some brave starlets chose colourful dresses - Isabel Lucas was ethereal in coral Louis Vuitton, Zoe Saldana wore lemon Calvin Klein, while Jinnfer Goodwin snubbed designer labels for a jade green Topshop Unique frock.

Haute Couture twins: Ashley Olsen wore dramatic Christian Dior, while sister Mary-Kate wore bright red Givenchy

Hits and misses: Diane Kruger, in Jason Wu, was a style winner, while Christina Hendricks received mixed reactions for her Carolina Herrera gown

The Olsen twins were typically high fashion in Christian Dior (Ashley) and Givenchy (Mary-Kate) Haute Couture.

The young starlets of screen and song including Blake Lively and Leighton Meester of Gossip Girl, Twilight stars Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning and Ashley Greene, Glee's Lea Michele and singer Taylor Swift all managed to shine just as brightly as more seasoned industry names in their colourful assortment of gowns.

The men were not forgotten, with Miranda Kerr, Jessica Also and Fergie bringing along husbands Orlando Bloom, Cash Warren and Josh Duhamel respectively.

Feeling blue: Isla Fisher wore sparkly Tory Burch, Eva Mendes rocked an asymmetrical Stella McCartney

Young pretty things: Dakota Fanning wore sweet floral Valentino while a grown-up Taylor Swift wore J. Mendel

Plus one: Colin Firth with wife Livia Giuggioli and Anna Wintour with daughter Bee Shaffer

Royal Wedding dress designer Sarah Burton

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Golden girl: Sarah Burton, dressed in one of her own creations, makes her first public appearance since designing Kate's wedding dress

After designing the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding gown, Sarah Burton is the toast of the fashion world.

And last night, her peers finally got the chance to raise a glass to her as she stepped onto the red carpet at the glittering gala ball held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Dressed in a diaphanous white gown of her own creation, Sarah Burton looked every inch the star.

Paying tribute: Anna Wintour, Sarah Burton and Stella McCartney at a press preview this morning of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's new Savage Beauty exhibition on the work of Alexander McQueen

Earlier that day Burton had rubbed shoulders with other fashion dignitaries at a preview of the museum's newly opened Alexander McQueen exhibition.

The designer viewed the much-anticipated collection alongside Stella McCartney, whose creations were set to be worn by a number of guests at the gala ball, and U.S. Vogue editor Anna Wintour

Speaking to the assembled guests, Mrs Burton, who was McQueen's protegee and successor at the helm of his fashion house, refused to comment further on the Royal dress.

Instead, she paid tribute to her mentor, saying simply that the retrospective was a fitting homage.

Fashion's golden boy: The Met's Savage Beauty exhibition will chart the career of Alexander McQueen

She said: 'When I walked into the exhibit, I thought of Lee...the passion, inspiration.'

Ms McCartney, who had not a trace of baby weight after giving birth to daughter Reiley in November, and also trained under McQueen, added: 'When I think of him, I think of red roses.'

Tonight's ball, one of the biggest nights in the fashion calendar, will also pay tribute to the late designer, who took his own life last year.

Works of art: McQueen's designs 'constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion'

Savage Beauty: McQueen was known for using high contrast in his work, marring dark and light, and soft and hard. It is a skill Mrs Burton has inherited and continued in the label's designs since his death

On display: Model Coco Rocha admitted that she had a hard time choosing which McQueen gown to wear for the ball tonight because many of the best looks were part of the exhibit

Moment in the spotlight: Both the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton wore Alexander McQueen creations on Friday. Catherine also wore another McQueen creation for the evening reception

The exhibition will be open to the public from May 4, and will run until July 31. For more details, visit metmuseum.org

Planning to dance the night away? Miranda Kerr channels a prima ballerina

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

White swan: Model Miranda Kerr looks ballet ready as she and actor Orlando Bloom arrive at the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Costume Institute Gala in New York this evening

Orlando Bloom recently described his wife Miranda Kerr as his 'lioness.'

But she looked more like a prima ballerina as she arrived at the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Costume Institute Gala in New York City this evening.

With her brown hair pulled back into a neat chignon, the 28-year-old Victoria's Secret model resembled a cast member for the ballet Swan Lake in a white strapless tulle and lace creation which flared outwards at the waist.

Dressed for success: Miranda posed in a white lace and tulle ballet style dress, complete with matching purse and ornate lace shoes

A matching jewelled purse and ornate laced shoes completed her look.
They couple seemed happy and relaxed as they posed for photographs on the red carpet.

Perhaps they were looking forward to a night off from looking after their baby son Flynn who was born in January.

Miranda has already returned to work as a model, much to the surprise of her husband.

All smiles: The proud parents of four-month-old Flynn looked relaxed as they enjoyed a night off from baby duty

'She is a little insane,' he recently told Ellen DeGeneres. 'She’s of her own mind.'
He also paid tribute to the model's svelte appearance following the birth of Flynn.

'It’s genetics. It’s amazing,' he said. 'She looks incredible, a lot of breast-feeding.'

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old star is also returning to work after a four year break from the big screen.

He stars alongside Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney in Sympathy for Delicious.

The film is about an actor who lost the use of his legs after a rock-climbing accident, in which Orlando plays a potty-mouthed punk rocker appropriately called, The Stain.
